Beaches

Mountain hikes
The region of Sfakia is the base of a mountain range, called Lefka Ori. This Sierra consists of more than 30 peaks, waiting to be reached. Some trails are for the most experienced of hikers, and some can be walked on by anyone. There are tens of shepherd stone houses spread across the region, with friendly shepherd watching their sheep. The view from the highest peak, Pachnes (2453m), is something that you will never forget. Gorges
‘Sfax’ in ancient Greek means ‘’land of canyons’’. So, it’s no wonder that this region got the name Sfakia. With more than 15 gorges, Sfakia rightfully deserves the title! Formed tens of thousands of years ago, these geological marvels still amaze even the most demanding tourists. The longest gorge in Europe also lies here. Samaria is about 18km long and takes about 6-7 hours to get through. It might seem a long time but, by the time you reach the end, you ‘ll think that seven hours aren’t enough. Getting lost under the huge rocks, roaming into the roots of the earth is part of the experience. All of the gorges open onto the Libyan sea. So, after the long walk, don’t forget to take a bath into the crystal waters! The majority of the gorges are found in the western part of Sfakia and are full of wildlife and green. Diving

On the boat, looking at your right, while going west, you can see churches, small castles, villages and beaches slowly appearing behind the rocks.
